What is Dental Bonding?

Dental bonding is a cosmetic treatment that restores the appearance of chipped, cracked, or broken teeth using a tooth-colored composite resin that blends naturally with your smile.

This versatile procedure is used to address the following conditions in a patient:

Conceal chips or cracks in your teeth

Camouflage tooth discoloration

Close small gaps and spaces between your teeth

Reshape teeth for a more balanced look

If you are located in Newport Beach, contact Dr. Spitzer to schedule your consultation today and find out if dental bonding is right for you!

Why choose tooth bonding, even for a small chip?

Repairing chipped teeth isn't just about appearance—it also helps maintain proper chewing function and prevents further damage that could impact your oral health.

Teeth bonding is an in-and-out procedure that does not require anesthesia unless the chipped tooth is near a nerve. Dr. Spitzer begins by using a color chart to choose a composite resin color to match your tooth color. Then, he will prepare the tooth by applying a bonding agent. This agent will prepare your tooth, making it easier for the liquid and composite to stick.

Next, Dr. Spitzer will apply the composite resin and mold it to repair the damage and restore the tooth’s shape. Lastly, everything is dried with a UV light.

How to Care for Bonded Teeth

As you return to your daily activities, please remember that nothing is as strong as natural tooth enamel. You should avoid chewing on hard items such as ice cubes or pens. Hard foods and candies could cause damage to your bond, as well as your natural teeth.

Resin does not resist long-term stains as well as your enamel. You may experience discoloration to the bond if you drink lots of coffee and red wine or if you are a smoker. Unfortunately, composite resin does not respond to whitening gels. Caring for your bond is the same as caring for your natural teeth, so practice good oral hygiene habits, brushing at least twice and flossing daily.
