What to Expect at Your Dental Cleaning?
After your oral exam, our experienced dental hygienist will begin your professional teeth cleaning by carefully removing bacteria, plaque, and tartar buildup from around the gumline and between the teeth. This process is done using a tool called a scaler. If it’s been a while since your last cleaning, this step may take a bit longer due to increased tartar buildup.
Once your teeth are free of tartar, the hygienist will use a high-powered electric toothbrush and a gritty, professional-grade polishing paste to scrub away surface stains and leave your teeth smooth and shiny.
Next, your hygienist will floss thoroughly to remove any remaining plaque or debris between the teeth. This step also allows us to spot areas that may need extra attention or further evaluation.
To finish, your mouth will be rinsed to clear away any remaining particles, followed by a fluoride treatment to strengthen tooth enamel and help protect your teeth from decay for months to come.
